Living Apart Together (LAT) is a relationship style where couples in committed partnerships choose to live in separate homes.
According to the United States Census Bureau, 3.89 million Americans – making up 2.95% of all marriages – are currently living apart from their spouses.
While some couples used to live separately out of necessity, such as for career opportunities in different cities, the trend is shifting. Now, more couples are intentionally choosing to maintain their own spaces, seeing it as a way to foster independence and preserve the strength of their relationship.
