What happened: According to authorities and villagers, a newborn baby girl, now named ‘Akanksha’ was found abandoned in a field near Saristal village, in northern India. Akanksha was able to survive the chilly night because of a litter of puppies by her side, as they nestled alongside the few-hours old baby, to keep her warm. Details: Farmers were startled when they heard a child crying and found a newborn baby abandoned in the fields, with her umbilical cord still connected, snuggling near the dogs. The villagers quickly notified the health department, and Akanksha was transferred to a neighbouring hospital. The Childline Project, an Indian NGO that focuses on children in need of care and safety, took care of the baby. What else: Premnath, a local villager, described the baby’s survival as a “miracle,” claiming that stray dogs can be savage at time. He also informed that the search for Akanksha’s biological parents is underway, “They are not parents; they are criminals,” he added.
