In a recent article written by the Global Citizen, it was claimed that Pakistani courts have the law that child marriage is justifiable if the minor has had their first period. However, this is false news. In a facebook post by an activist and a lawyer by profession, Jibran Nasir, writes and clarifies that no such law has been passed.

From where did this fake news stem? The news stems from an ongoing case regarding the marriage of a converted Christian minor girl. However, the husband claims that his wife is not minor, but the parent’s of the girl, Huma, claim that she was born in 2005. The court has only asked to verify the age of the girl and no verdict has yet been passed. Child marriages were banned by Sindh High Court. Also Read: Facts about Child Marriages in Pakistan
