Sitting on the ground by your Ami’s feet, your ears don’t comprehend anything but the rustling of your hair as your Nani’s hands make quick work of rubbing oil through your scalp. Champi , she called it, and you remember the days when you’d sit in the veranda for hours on end with oil on your head and the memory of it on your nani’s softened hands. In desi households it is practically a tradition to have your grandmother put oil on your hair. It’s a form of love and care passed on from generation to generation. It was this experience that resulted in Alizeh Shah’s Hair Matters (@ hair.matters ) , an ode to her Nani and all other grandmother’s who would lovingly oil their grandchildren’s hair .
When Alizeh Shah (@ hair.matters ) , accompanied by a group of her friends, planned on starting a business, she racked through her mind endlessly for an idea that was original. One day, she was talking about how her Nani used to oil her hair with an originally crafted oil and realised that not everyone has had that experience. She truly cherished her Nani’s memories of when she oiled her hair so she decided that she would not only bring her Nani’s original recipe to the market, but also promote the traditional experience.
She started out in 2016 and from the ingredients to the bottling, she did everything on her own and had great fun doing it as well. Eventually though, as her customer base grew, she had to take on more team members to meet the demand for her product. Her very first oil, which is a family recipe that was passed on through generations of mothers, came to be known as the Ultimate Hair Treat Oil (@ hair.matters ) .
The business continued to grow and so Alizeh became engrossed in research and different blends to make more oils that targeted specific issues such as her Hair Repair Oil and Hair Strengthening Oil (@ hair.matters ) . Even when these oils became successes she still felt that there was more that she could do. This passion led her to creating both hair masks and many more oils such as the Moms Revitalising Hair Oil meant to be used postpartum and Eyelash Growth Oil that is termed “a nightmare miracle”.
Alizeh and her team are constantly working on putting healthier, natural and effective products out there for hair care. They have products for men, women and children and have launched their very own Beard Oil as well.
She simply, through her oils, wants to bring back a love that has dimmed over time. The importance of those memories lives within her and through her oils she wants to spread the same love and care that her Nani gave to her through a task as simple as oiling her hair. You know you can never go wrong with her products because her business is truly family oriented and they have only the best intentions (@ hair.matters ) .
