“We live in a society that is unsafe for women and we must accept this,” says Barrister Pansota on men-women harassment comparisons

What happened: In his interview with anchor, Naheed Chaudhry which was broadcasted on the PTV show, ‘Capital View’, Barrister Ahmad Pansota (@muhammad_ahmad_pansota) spoke up about how one shouldn’t compare men-women harassment claims. The lawyer’s statements came after the anchor asked him about his views on false allegation made by women, mentioning Ayesha Ikram and women in Faislabad who were accused of stealing. Details: Naheed Chaudhry in her question asked Mr.Pansota that what are the women of our society doing as she brought up the Minar-e-Pakistan and Faislabad incident, in his answer, the lawyer said that he completely disagrees with what she is saying, “We have to remove the part where we question women on this. We live in a society that is extremely unsafe for women and we must accept this.” Presenting a stronger base for his statement, Mr. Pansota said that Ayesha Ikram did stage the incident but she didn’t ask any of those men to rip off her clothes. “The women in Faislabad were accused of stealing, but who gave those men the right to strip them naked?” Furthermore the lawyer shared that he has been working on harassment laws and a man doesn’t have to think twice before stepping out of his house, “A woman goes out and she questions her safety. This sort of thinking tells you that women are not safe in our country.” More: Ahmad Pansota also spoke up about inheritance laws and how men don’t give women their share, “Inki qoumi gherat uss waqt marr jati hai, aur who jaagti kab hai? Jab kisi dusri ghar ki aurat ne dupatta na pehna ho.” He insisted that when we talk about sexual harassment, we shouldn’t justify it with saying that women make false allegations too, “We have to stop this and keep the statistics in front of us which clearly show that men are torturing and killing women on a daily a basis.”
