What happened: On February 15, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority refused to block the websites dealing in cryptocurrency, as the FIA had previously asked. ARY News quoted the statement by PTA, “The authority could not block thousands of websites involved in trading of cryptocurrency on account of State Bank of Pakistan.” At the same time, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority’s statement read, “PTA will not block websites until the formation of mechanism on cryptocurrency in Pakistan.”
Details: Subsequently, the PTA has started constituting laws and contacting relevant authorities to decide digital currency’s future. It is pertinent to mention that the FIA wrote a letter to PTA to block cryptocurrency websites. Whereas, the State Bank of Pakistan had declared digital currency illegal in 2018.
More: At the same time, 24 News quoted the development as, “The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has sought an opinion of the Ministry of Information and Technology on the matter of Cryptocurrency websites.” FIA had requested the PTA to block websites as Pakistanis reported many online scams related to digital currency.
