Why are brown women pressurized to change their surname, when Islam clearly gives them a choice?

It’s an old tradition that says a woman should be identified by her husband’s family, rather than her own. This expectation comes from old-fashioned ideas that a woman belongs to her husband’s family, and losing her own family name means losing a part of who she is as an individual.
