The passenger arrived from dubai to the karachi airport with a large amount of undeclared items. The list of seized items included 29 cameras, 19 digital cameras, 1o fitness bands and one Ps5.
The valuation of all the undeclared electronics exceeded RS 5.5 million. The x-ray scanner flagged the personal baggage further leading to finding a long list of undeclared items.
Why are electronics being flagged at airports according to the 1969 customs act?
Section 18(1) states custom duties to be levied on all goods imported to Pakistan. Section 19 and 139 state passengers entering Pakistan must declare their baggage, granting the government to issue Statutory Regulatory Orders (SROs) for granting concessions. Under section 32 and 156 it states that if electronics are imported without declaration custom officers are legally allowed to fine or seize the undeclared items.
