A Postgraduate College of Nursing in Hayatabad, Peshawar, had a simple problem on its hands, Instead of solving it, the administration decided the fastest way out was to bring in law enforcement against its own students. The students were protesting because they said they were denied nearly two months of clinical training that was supposed to happen in their second semester. The students say this did not happen suddenly. They say they had already raised the issue with the college administration, especially the principal, but no one responded.
Instead of sitting down with the students, the college allegedly chose to call the police. Once police arrived, 11 students were taken into custody, and the students allege police used force to disperse them. The detained students, especially the female protesters, are demanding to be released immediately. They also want a transparent inquiry into how the situation was handled, and they still want the actual issue addressed.
