A 3-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by a janitor at Westminster International School, Islamabad. She told her mother, who then shared the incident in a WhatsApp group.
When her mother visited the school and confronted the principal, they denied the whole incident because there wasn’t any proof. The mother asked to check the camera’s presence at the relevant place, and she found out that the cameras weren’t working. Upon further questioning, the principal became defensive and tried to cover up, as nothing had happened, and claimed that her name was forcefully dragged into the mess.
Are children even safe?
After this case, even schools aren’t safe for children; the place where they are supposed to learn and feel safe is a danger for them as well. Cameras alone do not keep children safe. Schools should have clear systems for: Staff screening, Supervision of young children, reporting complaints.
