As govt plans to enforce import ban: Customs strictly intensify inspection at Pak airports

What happened:

 Recently, the Shehbaz Sharif-led government had banned the import of luxury items, and some travelers allegedly tried to smuggle the luxury items through international airports in Pakistan, as the Customs apprehended them. However, a Pakistani publication quoted, “Pakistan Customs has intensified goods inspection at all international airports to prohibit the smuggling of recently banned commodities.”

At the same time, it has been reported that the administration at the international airports in Pakistan has continued their 24-hour monitoring at the terminals in a bid to prevent smuggling. Subsequently, it is pertinent to mention that on May 23, 2022, a local publication reported that Jinnah International Airport authorities seized banned import items, including mobile phones and branded shoes, after inspection. At the same time, the FBR has applauded Pakistan Customs’ efforts to strengthen policies and strategies.
