Children evicting parents can face up to one year of jail time: LHC
On the 27th of December, the Lahore High Court observed the eviction of parents by a child from a house is an offense and it can attract rigorous imprisonment for a term of up to one year. Under Section 3 of the Protection of Parents Ordinance 2021, children cannot evict their parents from a house.
If a child owns the house or if the child rents it and he/she evicts the parents, it has been described as an offense, as PPO 2021. On the other hand, the Section 4 of Protection of Parents Ordinance 2021, a parent can evict a child, his spouse, or offspring from a house owner or rented by the parent. At the same time, if the child/spouse/offspring cannot vacate the house, he may be punished with a jail time of 30days or a five thousand rupees fine.
The President of Pakistan office earlier in 2021 tweeted, “The protection of Parents Ordinance 2021 prohibits expulsion or eviction of parents by ungrateful Children or Grandchildren. We have made it a punishable act and have empowered local authorities to aid the parents in case of violation.”
