Missing journalist Zeenat Shahzadi recovered after more than two years

Zeenat Shahzadi, a journalist who went missing in 2015 has been recovered by security forces near the Pak-Afghan border, said officials on Friday. Prior to her disappearance, Shahzadi who raised a voice for missing victims had been on the trail of an Indian citizen Hamid Ansari who was reportedly caught by Pakistani agencies in August 2015. Shahzadi, on behalf of Hamid’s mother, Fauzia Ansari, had filed an application with the Supreme Court’s Human Rights Cell.

60 dead, 45 wounded in two separate attacks on mosques in Afghanistan

Nearly 60 people were killed and 45 wounded when suicide bombers detonated explosives in two separate mosque attacks in Afghanistan on Friday. Police reported that a gunman opened fire on worshippers in a Shia mosque in Kabul before blowing himself up on Friday evening. This is the latest attack to hit the Afghan Capital. The Kabul bombing killed at least 30 people and wounded 45 said an Afghan official at the interior ministry. Hours later, there was a second attack at a Sunni mosque in central Ghor province when a suicide bomber blew himself up.

Zardari urges upon the immediate arrest of Nawaz and family

In a meeting where he was addressing a meeting of the party’s manifesto committee, former president and PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari on Saturday demanded that Nawaz Sharif and his family must be arrested immediately and made to face accountability just like he and his family did. Before presenting a list of the Bhutto family’s services to the country, Zardari said that the Sharif family is being given VIP protocol when they face accountability. When in contrast members of the Bhutto family without having their cases looked at were routinely arrested and sent to jail. “We faced trials held at different venues. I wish the Sharif family has to endure the same”, he added.

Public transport makes most women unsafe: Shirakat Research

Pakistani Women feel unsafe using public transport. The findings were made by  Shirakat – a non-governmental organization working on gender equality and social justice with funds from the European Union.  In their latest research titled, “Gender Spaces: Experiences of Women Commuters in Local Transport” identified around 60% of respondents felt uncomfortable traveling via public transport, especially around men. The twin cities of Pakistan i.e Islamabad and Rawalpindi was selected for this research. To read more about the findings, click here.

U.S drone kills leader of Pakistan’s militant group while another gets appointed

Jamaat-ul-Ahrar (JuA) is considered to be one of the most dangerous militant groups inhibited in South Asian region. After Cheif of Jua Omar Khald Khorasani was killed during a series of U.S. drone attacks on the Afghan side of the border, a replacement for Khorsanai chief got appointed.

JuA has killed hundreds of people in bomb attacks over the time period. With the killing of Khorsanai, Pakistan got a major encouragement and support in their anti-militancy campaign from the US. Asad Afridi is the chosen replacement for Khorsanai.

Two Chines players to be part of Peshawar Zalmi

Peshawar Zalmi has decided to include two Chinese cricketers in its squad to promote cricket in China, a press release by Peshawar Zalmi said on Friday. The cricketers, Jian Li and Yufie Zhang, will be a part of the Zalmi squad for the third edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) scheduled to begin in February 2018.

 Voters have right to elect defaulter or disqualified person: LHC chief justice 

After Hearing multiple petitions challenging the Elections Act, 2017, Lahore High Court Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah said on Friday that voters had the right to elect a defaulter or a disqualified person. When a petitioner’s counsel questioned a section in the election law that paved the way for former prime minister Nawaz Sharif to head his own faction of the Pakistan Muslim League despite his disqualification the Chief Justice said “The verdict of voters is always supreme in any democratic system,”.
