What happened:

The British actress Emma Watson on January 3, shared a picture on her Instagram titled “Solidarity is a verb.” The Instagram post depicted a rally by pro-Palestine activists and the picture was captioned with a quote from a British scholar Sara Ahmed. The quote by Sara read, “Solidarity does not assume that our struggles are the same struggles, or that our pain is the same pain..”

On the other hand, the Israeli ambassador to the UN Danny Danon tweeted, “10 points from Gryffindor for being an antisemite.” At the same time, Israel’s UN envoy Gilad Erdan is quoted by TRT World as, “Fiction may work in Harry Potter but it does not work in reality.”

It is pertinent to mention that Emma Watson is also United Nations Women’s Goodwill Ambassador, apart from an actress. However, Emma Watson was also praised for her pro-Palestine stance as Omar Ghraieb tweeted, “We are sending her too much love & appreciation for her bravery to side with justice. Much love from #Gaza.”
