What happened: On Apr 16, Imran Khan flew to Karachi to stage one his anti-government protest against ‘imported humkoomat.’ A picture of him getting off the private jet he landed in went viral, with people asking about his transport expenses, given that he’s not the Prime Minister anymore. Tahir Imran Mian , an award-winning investigative journalist, revealed that the jet is owned by conglomerate company, ‘Engro’ and it flew to Islamabad especially to bring Imran Khan to Karachi, “The cost of this flight is roughly 5 lakh maybe 7. I doubt Engro will ask anyone (read Malika Riaz) to pay.” Here’s what Engro had to say about it.
Engro Corporation, one of the country’s largest companies, released a statement on their official Twitter account claiming ownership of the jet. However, the corporation stated that it was not responsible for the flying costs. Earlier in the debate, some social media users claimed the private jet belonged to Bahria Town. Malik Riaz’s name began to trend on but insiders then refuted these allegations, claiming that their private jet has been in the UAE since April 8. According to them, the jet used by Khan was formerly held by the Hashoo Group and later sold to a broker.
