What happened: Fawad Chaudhry, the leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), slammed senior journalist, Matiullah Jan, after being asked to comment on corruption allegations against Farah Khan, a close friend of former first lady Bushra Bibi. Details: During a press conference with PTI MPs Asad Umar, Shahbaz Gill, and Ali Muhammad Khan, the former information minister was asked to react on claims that Farah Khan was involved in corrupt activities and had just fled the country with her husband. Irritated by the inquiry, Fawad said, “Yeh kiraye ke loug hote hain,” and that he knew where the got his “bribe.” More: All of the journalists present at the press conference were outraged by Fawad’s behaviour and demanded an apology from him, to which he replied why and to whom he should apologise. Fawad began his comments shortly after, but was interrupted by chants from journalists who refused to listen to him. What happened next: The journalists protested by throwing their mics on the dais and argued that Fawad would not be allowed to speak until he apologised to the reporter who he had mistreated. The leaders of the PTI abruptly ended the news conference and left the scene.
