First Lady Samina Alvi distributes laptops to 22 differently-abled women
On March 1, First Lady Samina Alvi paid a visit to the Society for Special Persons’ (SSP) customised wheelchair manufacturing factory, where she distributed 22 laptops to physically challenged girls as part of the e-empowerment campaign for people with disabilities.
Alvi praised the work of the differently-abled employees at the wheelchair manufacturing unit while touring the facility. Chairperson of the Society for Special Persons Zahida Hameed, World Health Organization Representative Mariyum Malik, Taare Zameen Par CEO Fadia Kashif, and many other social welfare authorities attended the ceremony.
Why it matters:
The first lady mentioned to the girls that they could earn a good living by doing internet job, implying that educated teenagers all over the world were making billions of rupees by doing online work.
Efforts by govt:
She also claimed that the incumbent government was adopting a lot of steps for the welfare of differently-abled people, while officials from the social welfare department and representatives from other non-governmental groups acknowledged the problems of differently-abled people.
