What happened:

Despite the government’s ban, the Kite Flying Association Rawalpindi announced on Jan 17 that they will celebrate Basant festival on Feb 11 and Feb 18 in Rawalpindi Chaklala Cantonment Areas and Rawalpindi City, respectively.

Basant Mela:

The occasion shall be celebrated at all costs, despite all constraints, according to the association. “Basant is a celebration that has been held in Pakistan since before the country’s establishment. The police should stop arresting and harassing kite-flyers,” the association added. The organisation claims that they have prohibited the use of metal strings and aerial firing during the celebration, and they claim that this measure will be severely enacted.

The police:

Rawalpindi City Police Officer Sajid Kayani, on the other hand, has issued directives to SHOs of police stations around the district to take strong action against kite-flying.
