Lahore man sentenced to 13 years in prison on charges of child pornography and harassment

What happened:

On the 24th of December, a Rawalpindi court sent Yousaf Ayyub to jail for 13 years for harassing, blackmailing and on the charges of child pornography. Yousaf Ayub was arrested from Lahore’s Allama Iqbal Town in 2019 and was accused of filming inappropriate videos of women and children before blackmailing them.

Details:

Subsequently, an FIR was registered against him under different sections of the Pakistan Electronic Crimes Act and the PPC (Pakistan Penal Code). However, on Friday, Rawalpindi’s senior Civil Judge, Muhammad Qadafi Bin Zahir, announced the verdict and also imposed a fine of 160,000 rupees under tha Pakistan Electronic Crimes Act 2016. 

What else:

 Earlier in 2019, Human Rights Minister Shireen Mazari had stated in the National Assembly that Pakistan was ranked as the country with the largest number of child pornography viewers. In 2021, the Supreme Court of Pakistan deemed that child pornography has wreaked havoc on society. Justice Sayyed Mazahar Ali said, “One of the reasons for the rise of child abuse/rape cases is squarely child pornographic content.”
