What happened: In what has been termed as a “radical mindset,” Zahid Gishkori of Samaa News reported that Pakistan’s Hajj mission wouldn’t have any female officials; that would be the first time in history. It is pertinent to mention that more than 80,000 Pakistani pilgrims, including 8300 women, will perform Hajj. Still, the Federal Minister of Religious Affairs, Maulana Abdul Shakoor, has said, “We have decided not to send women officials with the pilgrims.”

Details: On the other hand, the women officials who were stopped from traveling for Hajj have written to Kashmala Tariq, calling the government discriminatory and misogynistic action. Current, a local publication has quoted the letter as, “The illogical ground of this policy is depriving us of our constitutional right of equality… ridicule to all women officers and officials of the ministry.”
