What happened: On Apr 4, while addressing a press conference in Lahore, PML-N Vice-President Maryam Nawaz stated that the “threat letter,” which Prime Minister Imran Khan described as evidence of a “foreign conspiracy” against his administration, was drafted by Ministry of Foreign Affairs staff. Details: Maryam said that just a day before Imran Khan told the public about the letter, Pakistan’s ambassador to the United States was abruptly transferred to Brussels. Maryam claimed that PM Imran is using the National Security Committee’s platform for political benefit and misinterpreted its communiqué, “The official NSC statement makes no mention of a foreign conspiracy… This diplomatic cable was written by personnel from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” she continued. Maryam demanded that the premier should expose the letter to the public and submit it to the Supreme Court, “The major player in this ‘letter-gate’ should be prosecuted in the Supreme Court,” she continued. Responding to Khan’s allegations: In response to Imran’s accusations, Maryam claimed opposition leaders’ interactions with foreign diplomats are common and nothing out of the ordinary, “When we meet with foreign ambassadors, we talk about issues that are important to our country… “Did PM Imran not meet foreign diplomats before he came into power?” the PML-N leader said, holding up a photo of PM Imran with a foreign official before he became Prime Minister.
