This time it is not Covid causing schools to close, but smog

What happened: Lahore has been on the receiving end for the worst air quality since the past few months. The provincial capital has remained on the top of the list for the worst air quality index worldwide. With various Lahoris being hospitalized, the Punjab government has announced a closure of schools and offices. In a bid to make the public safe, the government has decided to close the educational institutes for 3-days a week. It is pertinent to note that Lahore doctors have said that at least 120 patients with smog infections are hospitalized daily.

What’s happening now: The worst air quality that has given rise to various respiratory diseases has finally rung a bell on authorities’ doors. Usman Buzdar has ordered to shut down the offices and schools for three days a week. Details: In another notification by the Punjab government, they have notified about the school closure. The schools and offices will remain closed from the 27th of November to the 15th of January in the province. However, the schools will continue their online classes to keep up with the academic planning.

Also: Usman Buzdar, while setting up a ban on industrial waste, tire fires, and crop leftovers, has said that “ The government will take every step to overcome the smog situation.”  It is pertinent to note that Lahore has seen an evident rise in respiratory diseases and other infections. Whereas, the Lahoris are also facing flu along with red-eyes caused by the worsening air quality.
