Unknown men chanted ‘lota’ at MQM leader Kanwar Naveed
On March 30, a few men, reportedly political workers of other party, gathered around one of the leaders of Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P), Kanwar Naveed Jameel at the Islamabad International Airport and harassed him by chanting slogans.
As MQM-P declared its break with the government and will now be voting against the PM in the no-confidence motion, Kanwar Naveed and his party were dubbed “turncoats” (lota). MQM-P leader Faisal Sabzwari spoke out against the incident on Twitter, claiming that the people who hooted and surrounded Kanwar Naveed were PTI workers. Sabzwari further stated that he has discussed the situation with PTI leadership, “We respect their workers’ feelings, but it is their obligation to keep them calm,” Sabzwari continued.
Why it matters:
The ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) suffered a severe defeat on March 30 when the MQM-P announced its withdrawal from the ruling coalition after reaching an agreement with the unified opposition.
