“What’s the problem? Let people have fun,” says IHC while allowing fireworks on New Year

What happened: Islamabad High Court’s Justice Athar Minallah issued the NOC for fireworks outside a shopping mall in Islamabad a day before New Year eve. During a hearing Justice Minallah also remarked that fireworks on New Year’s eve are held across the globe, even in Saudi Arabia and said,  “What is the problem? Let people have fun.”  Details: Previously, a citizen of Islamabad filed a petition in the IHC against the fireworks in the capital. However, Justice Athar Minallah dismissed the petition and remarked, “ Let people enjoy.”  On the other hand, the petitioner had said,  “The mall is located near the GT road. People in huge numbers come out on the streets to watch it and block roads.”  Whereas, now the fireworks are allowed in the capital as the Pakistanis get excited to welcome the new year.  What else: On December 31, the Karachi and Lahore police issued a statement highlighting the measures they were going to take to stop aerial firing on New Year eve. In Lahore, DIG Abid Khan revealed that over 5,000 police officers would be deployed in the provincial capital to arrest the people involved in hooliganism.
