“Private servants, maids, drivers or body guards” are not allowed in Lahore Gymkhana
Senior Barrister Muhammad Ahmad Pansota in a tweet, revealed that Lahore Gymkhana has taken “elitism to another level.” The lawyer also attached the notification of Lahore Gymkhana to all its members stating that according to their by-laws they have banned the entry of private servants and maids beyond the car parking area.
At the same time, the administration has instructed the club members to adhere to the new rules and “ensure that Maids and Servants are not allowed beyond CAR PARKING AREA.” The notification has also warned the club members of serious consequences stating, “Any such violation may lead to suspension of membership for two months.” On the other hand, Barrister Ahmad Pansota tweeted, “One may be accompanied by a criminal but not maids & servants.” He also talked about the Punjab Domestic Workers Act, which states that no one can be termed as a servant.
Earlier in 2019, Prime Minister Imran Khan lifted a ban on the entry of maids in the nation’s elite clubs. Imran Khan had also directed the authorities to eliminate the bonded labour and educate the children of financially affected families.
