While acknowledging that China’s human rights record is ‘atrocious,’”But what about Modi in India?” Omar asked, “By supporting Modi, how are we encouraging a free and open region?” Omar continues to inquire why the Biden administration has been so hesitant to criticise Modi’s government on human rights to which Sherman replied that Biden’s foreign policy prioritises human rights. Sherman was then again questioned by Omar. “How much does the Modi administration have to criminalise being a Muslim in India before we speak up?” What would it take for us to openly criticise the Modi administration’s treatment of the country’s Muslim minorities?” “Why hasn’t it happened yet?” Omar tweeted her statement on Twitter as well.
